Committees:

Board of Directors: Al Oertwig, President. This 20 member resident-elected Board is responsible for the leadership and oversight of the Council.

CPED: David Syers, Chair. This committee is responsible for 1) notifying the community about upcoming land use and licensing issues, 2) hosting a monthly meeting to review and learn about these land use licensing issues, 3) inviting the public and interested officials, organizations, and individuals to the monthly meeting, and 4) making recommendations to the Board of Directors on specific matters. This group typically deals with land owners who are requesting support for zoning matters, business owners who are seeking support for licenses or license changes, residents who are concerned about a particular issue in the neighborhood such as the environment or traffic, and housing and economic development issues in general. Please check the calendar for information about the next committee meeting.

NAC: Kerry Stone and Sheldon Schwartz, Chairs. This committee is responsible for addressing quality of life and community issues. Its current focus is on crime prevention and addressing vacant housing and problem property issues. The committee discusses and responds to needs and issues residents and block clubs bring forward, and works to facilitate solutions. Furthermore, the committee helps neighbors become more acquainted with and connected to the system of resources and information that allows citizens to solve problems at the block, neighborhood, district and public policy levels. NAC encourages neighbors to work together across racial and economic lines to organize a more unified neighborhood. To this end, NAC coordinates voluntary community projects and programs such as the ones listed below. For more info, please email nac@paynephalen.org.

Railroad Island Task Force: Linda Arnesen, Chair. The RRITF meets the 4th Thursday of each month. Please check out the neighborhood's new website at http://www.railroadisland.org.

Other Committees:

  • Personnel Committee: Personnel policies and procedures, staff hiring/evaluation/compensation issues, including the annual evaluation of the Executive Director.
  • Finance Committee: Provides oversight of fiscal/financial policies and issues including the annual audit, the budget, fund-raising, grants and contracts, etc.
  • Nominating Committee: Meets before each Annual Meeting to discuss recruitment and plans for the annual election.
  • Executive Committee: Meetings are conducted per by-laws to address issues falling outside of the full board meeting schedule and to assist the President.
